Quinebaug Valley Middle College High School
New Program for the Class of 2011

The Connecticut Department of Education has approved the new Quinebaug Valley Middle College High School (QVMCHS) which will open its doors in August 2008 to 30 tenth graders. QVMCHS is an innovative program that combines high school and college classes for non-traditional learners in grades 10-12. In addition to earning college credits, students will graduate from QVMCHS with the same number of credits that the traditional high school requires. EastConn will manage the program for a partnership that includes QVCC, Killingly, Plainfield, Putnam, Thompson, Windham, and Woodstock. The program will be based on the Quinebaug Valley Community College campus in Danielson.

The program is open to ninth graders who are currently enrolled in a high school in one of the participating towns. The program is for students who feel that regular high school is not for them, who are not being successful in their high school, who want to quit high school, or who are looking for something different in a high school. The school will run from 7:30 am to about 2:30 pm. For a brochure or an application, please contact Ms. Doyle in the WHS Guidance Office. For more detailed information about the program, contact Thomas Cronin, EastConn Director of Student Services at 860-455-0707.

 Access Agency Youth IDA

The Youth IDA (Individual Development Account) Program is designed to provide financial literacy education to students (grades 7 and up) with the goal of teaching financial responsibility by setting savings goals. The year-round financial literacy component of the program includes a 2:1 match savings program offering year-round participants up to $1,000 matching funds for every $500 saved during a period of 1 year. Students must save at least $10/month in a savings account. Some of the things the savings can be used to purchase are automobiles, computers, school supplies and books, or to pay for educational expenses.
