Don’t Get Left Behind!
Register Now For Summer School

Promotion to the next grade is based solely on credits. In order to be promoted to a Sophomore, students need at least 4.00 credits. In order to be a Junior, students need to have earned at least 9.00 credits. Finally, in order to be promoted to Senior status, a student needs to have at least 14.50 credits. If a student is short on credits, he/she may make up to 2.00 credits in Summer School.

Students should check their past report cards. If a course had a semester average below 60 or a semester average of NC, the student did not get credit for that course. Most major courses can be made up in Summer School.

The following courses are usually offered in Summer School:

    English 9 Biology
    English 10 Algebra I
    English 11 Geometry
    English 12 Physical Education
    Civics Health
    US History Spanish
    Integrated Science

Courses are offered for three weeks to make up a semester and six weeks to make up a full year. The cost is $55.00 and $105.00, respectively.

AP English and AP US History for the Class of 2010

Grade 10 students who have signed up for AP English Language and Composition and/or AP United States History should seriously consider signing up for one or both of the AP Summer Programs. For information and applications, see Ms. Doyle in the Guidance Office, Ms. Koljian in Room 101, or Ms. Hepple in Room 201.

If students would also like to receive ECE credit at UConn for these courses, they should complete a UConn ECE application. This application is available from Ms. Lamberson in the Guidance Office or Click Here to go to the University of Connecticut web site for more information and to download an application.

Communicating with Teachers

The most effective way to find out how your child is doing in class is to e-mail the teacher. Most e-mail addresses for teachers are the teacher’s first initial and last name @windham.k12.ct.us. For example: gblain@windham.k12.ct.us.

Wanted: 18 Year Old Males

Federal law requires that all males register with the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. Registration is the way our government keeps a list of names of men from which to draw in case of a national emergency requiring rapid expansion of our Armed Forces. You may register by completing a form at any post office. You must also register to remain eligible for federal financial aid including federal student loans, federal job training, and federal jobs.

Don't Become Technically Truant

A student who forgets to bring in a note for an absence within five days of that absence receives an unexcused absence. A student with 4 unexcused absences in a month or 10 unexcused absences in a year is legally truant and may be referred to juvenile court for truancy. Notes for absences should be turned into the Main Office before 7:45 am.
