Head Start on College Credits
Want to start college as a Second Semester Freshman or as a Sophomore? Here’s how!
WHIP Program The Windham High School Incentive Program is a cooperative program between Windham High School and Eastern Connecticut State University through which WHS juniors and seniors, who rank in the top 30% of their class, may enroll in courses at ECSU tuition free. Credits are earned at ECSU and may be transferred to other universities.
Partnership Program WHS participates in a Partnership Program with Quinebaug Valley Community College (QVCC). WHS juniors and seniors with an 80 average or better may enroll in courses at QVCC tuition free. Credits are earned at QVCC and may be transferred to other universities.
Early College Experience This program is offered through the University of Connecticut. It offers superior WHS students the opportunity to take first-year university courses in a high school setting and earn UConn credits for courses offered at WHS. These courses are English 12AP, Biology II AP, Chemistry II AP, and Individual and Family Development. (Bio 107 & 108: Principles of Bio, Chemistry 127Q & 128Q, English 110 & 111: Academic Writing and Writing through Literature)
Advanced Placement Program WHS offers ten Advanced Placement courses. These are college level courses taught at WHS. In May, students may elect to take the AP Exams in these courses. Depending on the student’s score on the exam, colleges may offer the students college credits or advanced placement. These courses are: English 12 AP, United States History AP, Psychology II AP, Calculus AP, Biology II AP, Chemistry II AP, Physics II AP, French VI AP, Spanish VI AP, and Studio Art AP.
Tech Prep Students may earn up to 14 college credits at QVCC by taking specific courses at WHS. These courses are: In English: Speech Communication; In Math: Algebra II or higher; In Science: Chemistry or higher; In Practical Arts: Marketing (2 years).
